We Grieve While Sleeping
There are clear moments
When I know
We have only to see
What Is, to put an end to grieving
Nicassio this dawn washed in finger-rayed mist
A few white pelicans, each its own wonder,
Floating on a clear undulating substance
We dismiss as water, reflecting sky
Hiding stars just disappeared, but there,
While geese float in toes splayed to touch the reflection
of the infinite.
This morning there are billions of beauties I cannot see;
my eyes here alone
Yet I feel the infinitude of wonders in my pores
I suspect miracles flowing in the tides, in blood
In friendships, joys and disasters, like invisible stars
We grieve only while sleeping
– Garth Gilchrist
